The 2011 LAQC (Louisiana Academic Queer Conference) was held on April 9, 2011 at Louisiana State University. We had over 100 attendees at our first conference, featuring workshops, an information fair and networking session, and a keynote panel of Louisiana activists giving an update on the "State of the Movement," and that evening there was a Monster Bash themed Queer prom.
The 2011 conference featured many different workshops about sexual health, queer politics, classroom panels, college life, transgender inclusion, activism at the university level, effective programming, rape prevention, the intersection of race and homophobia, and how to create and sustain an effective student organization, all hosted by students, faculty, and staff, as well as other members of our community.
The "State of the Movement" panel was made up of people involved in fighting for passage of Louisiana HB 112, which was a fully inclusive anti-bullying bill.
The theme of the 2011 conference was ROARN: Realize. Organize. Act out. Now.
